Introducing the Upper Itchen Autumn 2011 Alpha course

Dear Neighbour,

Life is worth exploring

Tough? Exciting? Disappointing? Precious? Life is full of highs and lows. There are times when you stand in awe of nature, completely exhilarated, instances when you laugh your socks off, and moments when you put your head in your hands with crushing disappointment. Sometimes in the middle of it all, when you least expect it, something makes you stop and think. You ask one question, and the others start coming, “where does love come from?”, “where am I heading?”, “why am I here?”

Socrates famously said, “An unexamined life is not worth living.” The fact is, sometimes it is easier not to ask questions, but surely life is worth exploring. The Alpha course provides an opportunity to begin this journey of exploration together with others who are also looking for answers.

The Alpha course is open to anyone interested in discovering what Christianity is about. It’s a place where people can come and relax, eat, share thoughts and explore the meaning of life. The course is designed primarily for people who are not church goers, but is open to anyone who would like to attend.

The evening starts with supper followed by a talk. Then there is an opportunity to discuss the talk in a group. We are really interested in what you have to say and your ideas about these big picture questions. None of us know everything and we really hope that we will learn from each other.

The course is 10 sessions and starts in mid-September in Kilmeston on Tuesday evenings from 8-9.45pm. There is no charge to attend, but if you would like to make a contribution, simply to the cost of the food, that would be very welcome, but not essential!

Come to the first session and see if you like it. If you are thinking about attending please complete the enclosed form or send an email to me at alex@manorfarmkilmeston.com and I will send you further details. If you cannot make a Tuesday evening, please do let us know if you would prefer attend the course during the day and, if so, on which day.

Best wishes

Alex Pease (01962 793063)
